About g league

Our Mission

Our program is designed to provide a high quality experience for youth basketball players in Sarasota County. We recognize that for too long basketball leagues have become complacent and comfortable with offering players and parents a basketball experience that is bare minimum. That changes here.

Our coaching staff is passionate about the game of basketball which is why all of our practices are overseen and instructed by some of the most experienced coaches in our area. We believe in supporting our volunteer coaches which is why we work together as a collective group to ensure quality training for all participants.

In doing so, we teach a wide variety of basketball skills such as ball handling, shooting, passing, screening, agility, footwork and defensive fundamentals.

Most importantly, we embrace a culture that promotes values such as integrity, respect, teamwork, sportsmanship and community service. This is why we are not your average rec league. #WeAreGLeague.

League Director

Gianna Vastola, a Sarasota native, four year varsity basketball letterman and 1,000 point scorer, graduated from Riverview High School in 2013. She went on to pursue her collegiate career at Coastal Georgia before transferring to Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL.

During her time at Florida Southern she helped earn a Regional Championship title in 2016 and assisted her team to the NCAA DII Elite 8 in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Under head Coach Betsy Harris, University of Alabama standout, Gianna finished her career scoring 1,069 points.

After graduating in 2017 with a degree in Business Administration, Gianna entered the workforce and quickly discovered that something was missing. The transition from student athlete to 'desk job' left her feeling unfulfilled. Keep in mind, prior to graduating Gianna had dedicated the majority of her life to the game of basketball.

Struggling to find her happiness in the workforce she came to the realization that the jobs she had pursued all had one thing in common or lack thereof: a T-shirt, gym shorts & a basketball were not a part of the job description.

And thus, G League was born. A League that would allow her to share her love and knowledge of the game with the next generation of ballers.
